5 Priciest Divorces In Hollywood History

Marriage is not the easiest decision that you will make in your life and it can get even harder when you learn that the person you married is not really the right person for you. For Hollywood stars, this means shelling out a large amount of cash. While divorce can be best for a couple if the situation fits, the settlement amount can get ridiculously high. Here are some of the most expensive divorces in history.

Neil Diamond and Marcia Murphy – $150 Million

Classic singer Neil Diamond and former wife Marcia Murphy were married for 25 years before they decided to call it quits in 1994. Diamond was a huge success as a singer, and this is also why he had racked up and estate that was worth $300 million. Of course, Murphy would receive half of all that upon the dissolution of their marriage.

Diamond and Murphy, a production assistant, in 1969 before he released his gold record “Touching You, Touching Me.” When the late 70s came about, Diamond rose to be one of the most sought after musicians in the business as he was earning around $14 million annually. When asked about how he feels about Murphy walking away with half of his fortune, he said that she was “worth every penny.”

Michael and Juanita Jordan – $168 million

The greatest of all time married Juanita during his sophomore years with the Chicago Bulls way back in 1989 in a humble ceremony which took place in Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple would enjoy 17 years and three kids, and they would be together when Michael would earn five championships and numerous MVP awards.

In 2002, Juanita filed for divorce. The couple, however, did what they can to keep the marriage together and tried to work things out. Unfortunately, this did not work and the couple decided to split for good in 2006. Just fresh from the divorce, the former couple left the courtroom together and went to watch their son in a basketball game.

Robert and Sheila Johnson

Robert and Sheila Johnson were together for 33 years where they built their fortune together. Fortune says that Robert found BET back in 1980, which he sold to Viacom for $3 billion. BET was started out with $15,000 in seed money and a $500,000 investment from media personality John Malone and this made them one of the wealthiest couples in America back then. Now, Robert has ventured out into the hotel business, auto dealership and a lot more.

Sheila Johnson would move on and marry Arlington County Circuit Court Chief Judge William Newman, the very same judge who presided over her divorce proceedings with Robert. Sheila says that now, she is not too proud of their brainchild and that she feels ashamed of it and tells her kids not to watch it.

Mel and Robyn Gibson – $435 Million

When Mel and former wife Robyn decided to split, they had to equally divide their shared estate of $850 million. The pair were married for 28 years until Robyn decided to file for divorce in 2009 and until their marriage was finally dissolved in 2011.

The former couple had seven children together and remain very close, says The Hollywood Gossip.

Rupert and Anna Murdoch

The Murdochs were married for 32 years but in 1999, they decided to call it quits. This meant that Anna was entitled to half of their shared estate, which amounted to $1.7 billion. Out of this amount, $110 million was given to Anna in cash.

Just after the split, Rupert once again married 30-year-old Wendi Deng who he met while being married to Anna. The new couple, however, again would not last long as Murdoch filed for divorce in 2013.

Considering all of the above, a divorce can cause a rich man half of his entire net worth. This is why divorce proceedings, although inevitable, are unfavoured.
