This Rare, Two-Home Oceanfront Estate in Maui Hits the Market for $45 Million
Finding a private oceanfront home on Maui already takes serious money and patience. Finding two neighboring homes that form one sprawling coastal estate is another matter entirely.
A remarkable property in Mākena has landed on the market for $45 million. Located at 4640 and 4650 Makena Road, the compound combines two separate residences along one of South Maui’s most desirable stretches of coastline.
The estate covers about 1.26 acres across two adjoining parcels. Together, the properties offer roughly 200 feet of ocean frontage and direct access to a crescent-shaped white-sand beach known locally as Secret Beach.
The homes sit about 35 to 40 feet above the shoreline. That elevation gives residents broad Pacific Ocean views while placing the houses close enough to hear and see the water from several living spaces.
A private gated footpath leads from the property toward the beach. The setup creates a level of coastal access that is increasingly difficult to find on Maui, especially on a compound of this size. The $45 million asking price puts the estate firmly inside Maui’s luxury market. Still, its biggest selling point is not simply the amount of land, number of bedrooms, or impressive ocean views.
The real attraction is how difficult the property would be to reproduce today. Modern coastal development rules have changed what owners can build near Maui’s shoreline.
Two Maui Homes Create One Private Coastal Compound

Casa Keylead / IG / The Mākena estate offers about 7,500 square feet of combined living space. Eight bedrooms are divided between two separate homes.
That arrangement could suit an extended family especially well. Parents, adult children, grandparents, and guests can stay on the same oceanfront property while maintaining separate living spaces and a greater sense of privacy.
The larger residence contains five ensuite bedrooms. A spacious great room uses floor-to-ceiling glass to keep the Pacific Ocean firmly in view from inside the house. The glass opens toward an ocean-facing lanai, creating an easy connection between indoor and outdoor living. Maui’s mild climate makes that setup practical for much of the year rather than simply decorative.
The second residence takes a different approach. This single-level home includes three bedrooms along with a den and an office. This gives owners more flexibility for guests, remote work, or extended stays. Its wraparound lanai provides one of the estate’s most striking features. The outdoor area cantilevers over the lava rock cliff, placing residents directly above the dramatic coastline.
The compound also includes an in-ground heated swimming pool. Tropical landscaping surrounds the homes, while multi-car garages provide practical storage and parking space away from the main outdoor living areas.
The estate is being offered fully furnished. So, for a buyer purchasing it as a second home or family retreat, that could make the transition considerably easier than furnishing two large Maui residences from scratch.
Pacific Views Stretch Far Beyond Secret Beach

Casa Keylead / IG / Mākena sits along the island’s southwestern coast, an area known for beaches, lava rock formations, clear water, and expansive ocean views.
From the estate, those views reach across the Pacific toward several recognizable Hawaiian landmarks. Residents can see Molokini Crater and the island of Kahoʻolawe, along with the West Maui Mountains in the distance. Sitting roughly 35 to 40 feet above the beach provides a broader viewing angle than a residence positioned directly at sand level.
The elevation also gives the outdoor areas a stronger sense of separation from beach activity below. Residents remain close to the water while enjoying the privacy of a home perched above the shoreline.
Secret Beach adds another layer to the setting. The small crescent of white sand sits below the property and can be reached through the estate’s private gated pathway.
For a luxury buyer, that combination can be hard to match. The property delivers substantial acreage, elevated ocean views, beach access, and two independent residences without requiring owners to leave the compound.
